Cutting boards is now a necessity in every kitchen. It is not just a chopping board but also helps in food preparation. As weird as it may seem, I even use it as a hot pad for sizzling dish. Every kitchen should have at least one and it is not uncommon to have more.

I have always preferred maple for my cutting board because it is hard and dense that has fine grain. When it is scorned with knife, it heals well. All I need to do is care for it properly and it lasts me many many years.

Everyone knows that wooden cutting boards will expand and contract with moisture, which it will get a lot. The only important thing to do is learn how to care for it properly. Just avoid exposing the board to moisture more than the time you really need to and I can assure you that it will not avoid crack. It will also help if you put oil on it regularly to separate the wood from the food making it clean all the time.

Below is something I have discovered on how to keep you Maple Cutting Board clean. I hope this helps you.

Prepare the things that you will need.

Clean Cloth or very soft brush
Mineral oil
Dish soap
Bleach
Clean Dish towel

Things To Do To Care For The Maple Board

1. Put warm mineral oil to the maple board. Do this even before you use it for the first time. Use a soft cloth or soft brush to apply evenly along the grain of the board. Leave to soak which is approximately 5 hours. Excess oil should be wiped off.
2. Make it a point to clean the cutting board every after use. Never submerge in water. Just wipe it with clean cloth or soft brush.

3. You can sanitize the board by wiping it with one teaspoon of bleach per quart of water.
4. Dry the maple board with a clean towel. This will avoid too much moisture to be absorbed by the board.
5. Periodically re-apply oil on the board. Once a month is ideal unless you use it very often.
